kaisui
Kaisui (transl: Ocean water)
it should go without saying, but all recipes, patterns, and photos are copyright and may not be reproduced without my permission. you may not use these recipes, patterns, or photos for monetary gain. you may not distribute them in any way without my permission.
This organic-looking clutch is good movie-knitting and the sewing takes no time at all. The lining is easily removable to make for easier cleaning.
yarn: any super bulky and preferably wool (I dyed a handspun by April Hamilton that was beautifully thick-and-thin) about 70 yards.
needles: size 15
3 medium buttons (about 1-1 1/4" across)
Shell/Knit
C/O 18 sts
row 1: Purl
row 2: k4, yo, k to last 4 sts, yo, k4
-Knit to desired length (or 9"/30 rows)
(upcoming decreases are written for K side, but depending on what row you stop at they might be on the P side- this is no big deal.)
row 33: k2tog, k8, yo, k2tog, k7, k2tog.
row 34: Purl (or Knit)
B/O with sewn method.
Depending on the size of your buttons, you might want to close up the holes a little bit, making sure the knots fall on the knit side (WS).
-Fold in half so that knit side is facing knit side.
-Seam sides and attach buttons (two buttons near the seams on one side, one in the middle on the other side)
Lining
Cut a piece of heavy interfacing 10"(w) x 8"(h) and a piece of fabric 11"(w) x 9"(h) You can use any kind of manipulation with the lining fabric as long as it ends up being the above specified dimensions.
-Fold fabric RS to RS and seam sides using 1/2" seam
-Fold unseamed top over 1/2" to outside so that fabric fits snugly at the top of folded interfacing with a little slack at the bottom.
-Remove from interfacing and baste stitch this edge, making sure your stitches show mostly on the WS.
-Place fabric back inside folded interfacing and fold top edge of fabric over 1/2" onto outside of interfacing.
-Securely whip stitch this edge into place on the outside of interfacing so that stitches do not show on RS of fabric.
Place your lining inside of the shell and you're done!
